Canadian Air & Space Museum: 5% donation via Stanley Limited Edition Bottle

We support the Canadian Air & Space Museum {now facing eviction & demolition, shocking turn of events} via our supply of Stanley Limited Edition thermos bottles … just a few left in the shop … unfortunately, these are no longer in production, officially ‘retired’ by Stanley …

Tinder is donating 5% of these sales profits to the Canadian Air & Space Museum, home of the Avro Arrow, the only full scale model in existence {yours truly volunteered in the construction, riveting wing spars}, to help as best we can to SAVE/promote our unique Canadian history of technology and innovation in aviation and space exploration, and the heritage buildings in which much of this history occurred …!

And, we’ll be auctioning the last few of our stock of ‘travel weary’ versions of these Limited Edition Stanley thermos bottles {ie, dings ‘n dents, scuffs, etc, incurred during overseas shipping, though perfectly functional & brand new} via the Tinder ‘garage sale’ on eBay very soon, please stay tuned …

shop news: sneak peek … the sheila maid

Sheila Maid Airer

The Sheila Maid: traditional ceiling airer from Britain; for drying clothes with naturally rising heat, not rising fuel costs …

Our shipment has arrived in Canada, and will soon be in the shop!

Supplied to us by the long-established Domestic Paraphernalia Company in Britain, this original Victorian design laundry clothes airer/pulley system has been in use in Britain for over a century, and is still favoured today for its old fashioned charm and economy.

For folks not familiar with this clever British device, we’ve assembled a quick collection of links for you to survey:

Here’s a timely mention at the fab resource known as Remodelista.

Seen at Manufactum {fantastic fellow retailer of the Logmatic Wedge Axe!}, and a similar model discussed at Apartment Therapy’s Re-Nest.

In the news via the Telegraph and the LA Times {please note: the ‘Sheila Maid’ is not currently available at Urban Clotheslines}. Likewise at HGTV {‘Sheila Maid’ pictured, not Kitchen Maid}.

Also spotted over the fireplace here, and this quaint thatched Devon cottage has one over the Aga.

We discovered the Sheila Maid featured in the fine publication, Selvedge, in the blog and drygoods section. Speaking of Selvedge, you can spot Angel Hughes’ handmade ceiling airer for drying lovely hand block printed fabrics, found at Tobias and the Angel block printing workshop in Surrey, England. We found another crafty use of the Sheila Maid employed in an Irish cottage.

Last but not least, some British-based economic and ecologic benefits to consider here and here.

The Sheila Maid is also commonly found in French stables to air-dry horse blankets and in Swiss chalets to air-dry ski gear … practical in many ways … !

The Sheila Maid is coming to Tinder … we’ll keep you posted …
